Geez - I must stop painting flowers! This is my favourite painting although it was hard to capture all the texture in a photograph.
A lack of tonal range creates a very muted image but I like having to look carefully at the image to spot all the detail!
I like to think the background suggests looking at water through vegetation. I also wanted the irises to be reminiscent of tiffany glass.
Traditional oil on canvas - and I even stretched to canvas onto a home-made stretcher and sized it with rabbit-skin glue - far too much work; it's far easier just to buy ready-made and primed canvases!
